Fertigation and climate control.

Fertigation and climate control.

Every serious greenhouse needs a brain (computer) to control certain functions. The most basic functions will be fertigation (fertilizing through the irrigation water) and certain climate factors such as temperature and humidity.

This is a very specialized part of the greenhouse and a part that can give the grower much pleasure or many headaches.

It is therefore recommended that you choose the best system that you can possibly afford. No short cuts here!

Dynatrade represents Priva in South Africa.

We have close to a hundred operational Priva systems in the country, all running smoothly and maintained by our technicians.

Speak to Dynatrade for this very specialized part of your greenhouse operation.

Greenhouse screen systems.

Greenhouse screen systems.

A greenhouse screen system means quite simply to install a screening material inside the greenhouse above the crop, outside the greenhouse over the roof or on the sides of the greenhouse (inside or outside).

You’ll do this if you want to control day length (ex. chrysanthemum growing) or if you want to save on energy costs to heat or to cool a greenhouse.

A screen that helps with saving on heating costs will be called an energy screen and will work on the principal of making the greenhouse into a smaller area to heat and by

keeping heat inside by reflecting it back into the greenhouse.

A screen that saves on cooling costs will also be called an energy screen and will work on much the same principals, only inverted. It will make the area to cool smaller (pad & fan house) and it will reflect sunlight and heat out of the greenhouse.

This all sounds very simple but the installation and operation of a screen can be very complex. The reason why it is not as simple as just putting the right screen material in the right place, is because a screen must be moveable. In other words, you (or the Priva computer) must be able to open or close it at will.

This means that a screen will have hundreds of moveable parts that need to move smoothly several times during every day - much like your motor vehicle. Trying to save costs by choosing a low quality screening system can turn into a nightmare and eventually even higher costs for the grower.

Unless you want to spend the rest of your days as a professional grower tearing screen cloth from the gears of screen motors, we suggest finding yourself a reliable screen supply and installation company.

Dynatrade represents Peter Dekker Installaties (PDI) in South Africa. PDI specializes only in the manufacturing and installation of greenhouse screening systems all over the world.

Look no further for reliability and the latest technology! Speak to Dynatrade and see how a screen system can benefit your greenhouse operation.

Rockwool (stonewool) growing substrate.

Rockwool (stonewool) growing substrate.

A substrate growing system is a hydroponic system where the root zone is physically supported by media.

The plants are fed by applying nutrient solution to the media.

Almost any material that supports the root system, other than soil, is considered a substrate.

Substrates can be organic such as peat, pine bark, sawdust, rice hulls etc.

They can be petroleum based such as polymeric foams or plastic beads or they can be inorganic mineral based as are sand, gravel, perlite and rockwool.

What is rockwool?

Rockwool is manufactured by melting basaltic rock and spinning the melt into fibers. The most important quality a high grade rockwool should have is uniform wetting. The rockwool should wet easily but not remain water-soaked. Good drainage is important.

This is why Dynatrade represents Grodan rockwool in South Africa. Grodan is undoubtedly the leading rockwool manufacturer in the world. Grodan rockwool, when allowed to drain by gravitational pull, i.e. at field capacity contains 80% solution, 15% air pore space and 5% rockwool fibers. This ratio of solution to air promotes vigorous root growth.

Plants growing on rockwool will remove solution and increase the ration of air-pore space to solution. Thus, if a higher proportion of air is desired in the root zone increasing the time between watering will increase the percent of air.

The tension required to remove solution from rockwool increases only slightly as rockwool dries. This means that it is as easy for a plant to remove solution from saturated rockwool as it is from rockwool that has given up 50% or even 70% of its moisture. Thus, plants grown in rockwool are not exposed to water stress until the rockwool is almost completely dry.

Given that a standard Grodan rockwool slab used for tomato production holds 15 liters of water, the grower has tremendous flexibility with regard to watering and control over the air content of the root zone.

This is not the case in other organic growing media where the media often have lots of water but this water is not available to the plant.

Rockwool is an inorganic substrate. The main features of this class of substrates are that they have little cation exchange capacity and they maintain their structure over a long period of time.

In general, at field capacity, rockwool holds more water per unit volume than the other inorganic substrates and therefore has a greater buffering capacity.

The larger reserves of a nutrient solution coupled with excellent drainage makes Grodan rockwool easy to grow in. Speak to Dynatrade about propagating and growing in this wonderful substrate.

Peat based growing and germination mixes.

At Dynatrade we know that the supply of quality growing mixes (substrates) to the local nursery industry can be very unreliable.

Peat based growing and germination mixes.

That is why we import only quality assessed and guaranteed growing mixes from the best suppliers in Europe.

Especially in the propagation of bedding plants our clients have had great success with our imported mixes.

Speak to Dynatrade about importing your growing or propagating medium.

Osmocote controlled release fertilizer.

Osmocote controlled release fertilizer.

A good controlled release fertilizer should have a complete balanced formulation (NPK + trace elements) inside a coating and should release these nutrients freely to plants over a specified and guaranteed time frame.

Osmocote does exactly this and that is why Dynatrade only supplies Osmocote controlled release fertilizers to the horticulture market in South Africa.

Speak to us about Osmocote and also have a look at our separate website for this quality product: www.osmocote.co.za

Pad and fan cooling systems.

Pad and fan cooling systems.

A greenhouse with a pad and fan cooling system will have extractor fans on one wall and on the opposing wall it will have an evaporative wet wall (pad) that lets air in through a fine trickle of water.

The evaporation of the water will cool the air that is being sucked into the greenhouse though the wet wall (pad) and the fans will pull it right through the greenhouse, cooling the entire greenhouse inside.

This is an explanation in its simplest form and there are many factors influencing the effectiveness of pad and fan cooling for example outside humidity, crop length and the distance from the fan to the pad.

Dynatrade has many years of experience in pad and fan cooling and works closely with the best manufacturers in South Africa. Speak to us for all your pad and fan cooling requirements.

Greenhouse plastic

Greenhouse plastic

In South Africa most greenhouses are covered with either clear or diffused plastic.

This plastic is not designed to last forever and need constant replacing.

Dynatrade will shop around for the best deal in greenhouse plastic and we also have a very experienced team to install the plastic.

This is very important because if you are not careful during the installation (pulling and clipping into place) of even the highest quality greenhouse plastic, you can drastically shorten its life span.

It is also important to make sure you use a quality profile to keep the plastic from pulling out during the first wind storm. Dynatrade has many years of experience and all the best products for all your greenhouse plastic requirements. Call us today for a quote!

Spraying equipment

Spraying equipment

This will include all equipment to spray chemicals onto plants in the greenhouse. There are many good local suppliers of spraying equipment but Dynatrade can get you high quality equipment that is normally only available in Europe.

Speak to us if you need something special in this department.

Internal transport and harvesting machines

Internal transport and harvesting machines

There is a whole new world that opens to the leading grower if he starts to think about automating certain functions in the greenhouse.

Functions that can easily be automated or semi- automated are harvesting and internal transport. Dynatrade works closely with the best companies in the world in this field. Give us a call and see what the possibilities are.
